Scaletta shared some of her favorite strategies for getting the perfect shot!

“I love going to the Manitoba Summer Fair during the fireworks. It helps me enhance my long exposure shots of the rides with the fireworks,” Scaletta said of her winning shot. “For this particular image, I wanted to capture the ferris wheel and other moving rides with the fireworks in the background, so I set my shutter speed to six seconds and shot (all six seconds) hoping to capture the motion of the rides with the explosions of fireworks.”

The image is alive with color and movement and celebration – definitely an award winner!

Scaletta has been participating in the Sunrise Photo Contest since the beginning, since 2013, and although he was previously a finalist, this is the first time that one of his photos has been named the best photo, which won him the Grant d a one-year price of $500. Sunrise Credit Union Term Deposit.

“I’m entering Sunrise Credit Union’s ‘Our Manitoba Photo Contest’ to see how my photos stack up against the many submissions you receive,” Scaletta said. “This competition has hundreds of incredible entries, and being shortlisted is an achievement for me. However, to be elected [the 2023] the calendar is the icing on the cake.”

Scaletta has been passionate about photography for many years and has won other photo competitions. He shared some of the keys to getting quality photos.

“I find photography similar to golf. You can’t master it, but you can have fun trying. There are ‘rules’ you can follow to help you compose an image. You can learn them in different ways ( YouTube, books or join a photography club – I’ve done all three),” Scaletta said. “An image with a nice composition will give you a decent chance of being selected for a calendar. A second tip, for landscapes, get down. A lower perspective will enhance foreground elements which will make your images go up a notch. notch.”

Sunrise Credit Union Marketing Director Terri Roulette-McCartney says the goal of the Sunrise Photo Contest is to showcase the beauty of Manitoba through the lens of a camera. “Just beautiful images from all over the province. Interestingly, and we were thrilled, all of the winners of this year’s competition were all from our corner of the province. So they’re all from southwestern Manitoba, which was really good.

“The winning photo is a very beautiful photo, full of color,” McCartney shares. “It captures family values and just a fun event. We all need fun events these days, and this picture really captured it and the audience voted for this picture!”

The 13 finalists will receive a canvas print of the winning photo, be featured in the 2023 Sunrise Credit Union calendar, and be featured on Sunrise Credit Union branch television and social media channels.
