NWFCU Foundation Donates $ 20,000 to Northern Virginia Community College Student Support Programs
HERNDON, Virginia – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) –The Northwestern Federal Credit Union Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwestern Federal Credit Union, awarded $ 20,000 in grants to Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) for its student support programs. This partnership has been in place since 2018 and this is the fourth consecutive year of support. The grants will go to NOVA’s Lifeline and Helping Hands programs, which are emergency relief funds for NOVA students. These programs provide assistance to students on the verge of obtaining their associate degree who, due to unforeseen circumstances, may not have had the necessary funds to complete their studies.
“Northern Virginia Community College’s Lifeline and Helping Hands programs are critical to the success of so many students who, due to unexpected financial hardships, such as a broken down car, insecure housing, or a computer in need of repair, face the very real possibility of not being able to complete their degrees, ”said Kaycee Childress, Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation. “When these students have nowhere to turn, the Lifeline and Helping Hands programs come to their aid and often make the difference between getting a degree or not. We are delighted to continue to support these life changing programs. ”
Checks for $ 5,000 were presented to Dr. Molly Lynch of NOVA Manassas, and Dr Annett Haggray of NOVA Alexandria. In addition, a check for $ 10,000 was given to Dr. Julie Leidig of NOVA Loudoun. These funds will be used to support their Financial Stability and Advocacy Centers, whose mission is to enhance students’ ability to succeed in their studies by providing personalized services that build a strong financial foundation and access to community resources.
“We would like to thank our many generous donors, whose contributions to the NWFCU Foundation allow us to help many schools, including Northern Virginia Community College and their student support programs,” said the President and CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union and Chairman of the NWFCU. Foundation, Jeff Bentley. “An unforeseen expense can happen to anyone and it shouldn’t interfere with a student’s ability to achieve their academic goals.
