CHEYENNE, Wyoming (Wyoming News Now) – On Wednesday afternoon, Meridian Bank kicked off its Flags for Heroes event, followed by Honk for Heroes.

Each flag has a tag of a hero that someone in the community has chosen to honor.

“We have retired and active military, we have sons and daughters, we have teachers, we have first responders, you know, we have people who are bosses on these beacons and so it’s really great because we really wanted to focus on all the heroes, not just one particular bunch, so you can come and read about a plethora of different people. It is truly inspiring. It gives goose bumps. “

The Flags for Heroes event began by honoring veterans in attendance, including the honor guard and a WWII veteran. Wyoming First Lady Jennie Gordon was also in attendance. Next, Executive Vice President Bryan Thomas encouraged everyone to take a look at the different flags. The flags, Thomas says, were an idea born out of last year’s pandemic.

“Last year, obviously, going through COVID, we were trying to think of something we could do to honor a lot of heroes and how could we honor them in a way that would be a great display, but could also do it. do in social distancing, Thomas said. “So we decided to do an exhibition of American flags. And people just loved it.

Thomas said they plan to hold similar events every year to continue honoring people and raising funds to improve the community.

“It’s a great way to get sponsorships and then donate to a good cause and we were happy to donate to Our First Lady Jennie Gordon and the Wyoming Food Hunger Initiative.”

The flags are displayed in three branches of the Cheyenne Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union and one branch in Wellington. Thomas encouraged people in these areas to also travel by the meridian shores at night for a completely different experience.
