Shaffer pleaded guilty to theft of property, between $ 2,500 and $ 30,000, committed on Dec. 14, 2018, before 30th District Judge Jeff McKnight, according to court records.

McKnight has granted Shaffer probation with deferred arbitration as part of a plea bargain, court records show.

If she succeeds in doing her community surveillance, she will avoid having a conviction on her file.

The offense carries a penalty of up to two years in state prison.

McKnight also ordered Shaffer to pay $ 4,531 in restitution, a fine of $ 750 and $ 345 in court costs, according to court documents.

An affidavit for an arrest warrant gave this account: The owner of Texoma Freight reported on March 17, 2020 that a former employee had stolen money from the company.

The embezzlement was revealed during an audit. Shaffer made unauthorized purchases for his personal use with the company’s Office Depot credit card.

Surveillance video showed several of the purchases. Shaffer also used a credit card owned by the owner of Texoma Freight to make a personal purchase on Amazon.

In addition, she made duplicate payroll payments from the company’s checking account.

She doubled her salary by accepting direct deposit for her salary, as well as writing paper checks for it.

She stole approximately $ 9,485 in total from December 2018 to January 2020.
